Rockstar Games has officially delayed Grand Theft Auto VI to May 26, 2026, pushing it back from its original fall 2025 window. In a statement, the studio apologized for the extended wait, citing the need for more time to meet the high expectations surrounding the next entry in its blockbuster franchise.
“We’re very sorry this is later than expected,” Rockstar said. “We need this extra time to deliver the level of quality you deserve.”
Despite the delay, Rockstar did not release any new trailer or assets, nor confirm platform details—leaving open speculation that the game could launch on PC alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick voiced support for the delay, calling GTA 6 “a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience,” and emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to quality and long-term growth.
The shift gives breathing room to other big titles slated for late 2025, including Borderlands 4, Battlefield, Marathon, and Ghost of Yotei. But for any games now set to launch near May 2026, the competition just got fiercer.
